Frequently Asked Questions About Evergreen

  • Are you a "no-kill" organization?
  • Where do your rabbits come from?
  • Do you have a shelter?
  • You're a rabbit rescue group. Why won't you take my rabbit?

    Are you a "no-kill" organization?

Yes. Should they become ill, our rabbits receive medical care. Only when further treatment will no longer alleviate pain and suffering is euthanasia performed (by and on the advice of a veterinarian). Rabbits with chronic health problems remain in our homes and become part of our families. We do not euthanize rabbits because of behavioral problems or due to lack of space.

Where do your rabbits come from?

We accept rabbits primarily from local animal shelters. These rabbits would otherwise be euthanized because of age, illness or lack of space.

    Do you have a shelter?

No. All of our rabbits live in private homes as members of their foster family until they're adopted. However, we do list rabbits for other organizations and some of these have shelters.

You're a rabbit rescue group. Why won't you take my rabbit?

As much as we'd like to help every needy rabbit we hear about, there are several reasons we can't accept rabbits from members of the public:

  • The shelters we work with receive many more rabbits than they have room for. The rabbits we accept from them would otherwise be euthanized due to lack of space.
  • We operate with limited funding. This means we can only afford to feed, house and care for a limited number of rabbits.
  • All of our rabbits are housed in private homes on a volunteer basis. This means we only have space for a limited number of rabbits.
  • You may not have to give your rabbit up. Let us help with resources and behvioral counseling. Please see: How do I find my rabbit a new home? for more information.
